Brooklynn used a thermometer with the same divisions as this Celsius thermometer to determine the temperature in her room. This section of a thermometer is divided into 2-degree segments. Which of these temperatures could be the temperature Brooklynn measured? Choose all answers that are correct. 10 1/2 °C 11°C 12°C 18°C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The First answer is 10 1/2 celcius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just making sure youre not confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you use the imperial system or the metric? (don't worry, im not confused)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don'nt know what that is? Sorry ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if her thermometer is divided into 2 degree increments you would have to pick an even number. Because you could not get an accurate odd number temp reading. Metric = millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers Imperial = Inches, feet, miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i live in U.S does that matter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you are use to the imperial. Okay. Cool.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11 C = 51 F 12 C = 53.6 F 18 C =64.4 F 10.5 C = 50.9 F But anyway if her thermometer is only accurate within 2 degrees, she could not determine an odd number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the correct temperatures

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All even numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

keep going

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I cant just give it to you, Ill get in trouble its considered cheating. Because this could be copied material from a course. Odd numbers are numbers that cannot be divided by 2 and its quotient remain a whole number (as in no decimal)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think is 10 1/2 c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, its not because when you divide 10.5 AKA (10 1/2) by 2 you get 5.25 which is not a whole number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the quotient an even number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, the answers that you can choose can be only even numbers. If the quotient is a whole number (if you divided by 2) then the number is even and only even numbers can be answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the choices i got were 12 and 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it between those two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct. because 12/2=6 which is not a decimal its a whole number. and 18/2=9 which is a whole number. If you read the question more carefully it says "Choose all answers that are correct."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you can have more than one answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so im right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes you are right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one more question that i need help on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, open up a new question and ill walk you through it!
