I think it depends where in the rain forest you're located. If you're under the tallest trees, you'll probably want broad shaped leaves so you can get as much light as possible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you think broad shape leaves can get more light as possible? What about narrow leaves? More narrow more light for other plants.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plants are selfish. They want stuff for themselves and don't think about what other plants want. So with broad shaped leaves, they cover a larger area for light to hit.

Though can you explain the structure of the leaf of a narrow plant ?

And how narrow shaped leaves can be beneficial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm hesitant to really say much on this subject as it's been a while since I've studied it. But I think narrow shaped leaves are beneficial in harsher environments. With broader/larger leaves, more moisture is lost to the environment during gas exchange. Narrow leaves prevent the loss of too much moisture and so keep the plant hydrated.

Well thank you. :) Its fine.
