what is the charge on every atom and why?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hello @seres507 ! Welcome to OpenStudy !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Net charge on every atom is 0 because each atom contains equal amount of protons and electrons which have equal and opposite charge on them.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

For example lets take the case of carbon atom, it contains 6 protons and 6 electrons. Charge on one electron is -1.6\(\sf \times 10^{-19}C\) and charge on one proton is +1.6\(\sf \times 10^{-19}C\). So net charge on the carbon atom will be -1.6\(\sf \times 10^{-19}\times 6~C\) + 1.6\(\sf \times 10^{-19}\times 6~C\) = 0C
