write the equation of a line parallel to y=3x-12

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Parallel lines have the same slope. The slope-intercept form of the equation fo a line is: \(y = mx + b\) where m = slope and b = y-intercept. Your line is already written in the slope-intercept form. The slope of your line is 3, and the y-intercept is -12. A parallel line has the same slope and a different y-intercept. To write the equation of a parallel line, just write an equation in the same form in which you keep the same slope and come up with a different y-intercept.
