Read the two fictional conflicts below. Using complete sentences, explain how the differences in setting might affect the protagonist. Story A: A boy gets caught stealing an apple in a crowded high school lunchroom. Story B: A boy gets caught stealing an apple in a four-person lifeboat that has been drifting at sea for three days.
In story A, people might not care as much about one singular apple, therefore, he wouldn't get into as much trouble. There is plenty of food to go around, and the school might even talk to his parents about any financial troubles, to see if he qualifies for the free lunch program. On the other hand, if he is caught on the boat, where the food supply is most likely extremely limited, one may become furious, and do something rash. There is no form of higher authority, which means that the punishment may be left up to the other starving people, who just lost a bit of their measly food supply.
