well so we know that the The predicate nominative is the noun following a linking verb that restates or stands for the subject. Typically, a predicate nominative has the same value or grammatical weight as the subject. So which one's do you think that it's not then you can have like 2 choices to pick from instead of 5 ?

Great question! The easiest way to wrap your mind around a question like this is to solve by elimination. In other words, you want to go through each sentence choice, find the word "place" and identify the function that it performs. However, there is more than one way to go about the question. The definition that you wrote above gets you halfway to the answer. There should be only one choice where the subject and the word "place" are interchangeable. So start by indentifying the subject and verb in each sentence: A.) The subject of this sentence is what's referred to as an "understood you". So if you were to diagram the sentence, the basic subject - verb - direct object structure would be: (you) - place - shoes. Now reverse it: shoes - place - you? It doesn't work!! B.) Same process as above: White House - is - place. Now try reversing it. C.) In this case, the same thought proces as in A indicates that "place" is the subject of the sentence: place - is - head. D.) This sentence uses a prepositional phrase as the direct object: you - will return - to the place of... In this sentence, "place" is functioning as the object of the preposition. I hope this helps.
