what would occur if cells did not have enzymes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"it would die". Well there are thousands of things in biology (btw, this is more of a bio question). Why would it die? An enzyme is basically protein in cells that lowers the activation energy of a reaction. Without the lowering of the activation energy the reaction would require more energy than the body can produce. Therefore, the necesary reactions that require energy like breaking down things like glucose will not occur. In the case of glucose, if it is not broken down, energy can not be obtained which has its obvious implications... death of the cell!

OpenStudy (ericanoel912):

chemical reactions (like digestion) couldn't happen :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so cells would have a CR but not enough to support life processes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah basically without enzymes the body will need more energy that it does not have and will soon not be able to function correctly and will eventually as I said die

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u answer my other ques

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

OpenStudy (ericanoel912):

mhm :)
