OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did the geocentric theory change over time as increased scientific knowledge led to increased consensus within the scientific community ?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

The observations became better documented.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I think.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I found this information from a fast google search by the way.

OpenStudy (confusionist):

Eek! Big words! Let's break it down. Do you know what the Geocentric Theory is? Wikipedia actually explains this one best! In astronomy, the geocentric model (also known as geocentrism, or the Ptolemaic system) is a description of the cosmos where Earth is at the orbital center of all celestial bodies. So, you may have seen a diagram with a bunch of rings and a dot in the middle. The rings are the orbits of other celestial bodies. The center is earth. This model isn't accurate, but it was absolutely the mark of where we began thinking about this sort of thing in history. A lot of people took this geocentric model as fact. Muslim societies and Islamic societies began studying it and being educated on it. Sorry about the crazy popup on this page, but it will explain to you what we know NOW. http://creation.com/location-in-universe It takes some serious background knowledge, so if you need some help I'm here. Anyway, not all Greeks took the geocentric model in. They began to question it. This questioning led to rivals! Then we began to hear of gravitation! And the Tychonic system! Try using all this information to make a statement. I'll write you a summary to help you out in a bit. :)

OpenStudy (confusionist):

@Cydney_Morgan Um, no. That's not how it happened. This question requires a lot of information on the evolution of the theory and how it led to how we view the solar system today. It's not about documentation but rather exploration.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Ok, Thank you for clearing that up for me! I am fanning you, you are extremely educated.
