I am stuck on this static question. I will post the picture below. I got F2 = 25.8 KN and the resultant force = 27.8 KN.. Somehow my textbook says this is wrong and i dont know why.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if theta = 30 degrees and the resultant force acting on the gusset plate is directed along the positive x axis, determine the magnitude of F2 and the resultant force.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By theta you mean the missing angle Phi?. Just asking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I found F2 to be 24.98 KN and Fr to be 26.12 KN. If that happens to be right, then let me know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant phi @charliealbert

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer in the textbook was F2 = 12.9 KN and resultant force = 13 KN

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not sure what i am doing wrong here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I had done my calculations based on phi NOT being 30 degrees. I shall retry my math with this new information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I just found the answers that you gave. So i'll type up a quick geometry so you can see how I got to it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think they are giving you the components of F3. X axis 4 kN and Y axis 3 kN

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, what i did was i first added up all the forces x components and set it equal to 0 because the resultant force has no y component. Then i evaluated F2's y components and used basic trig to figure out F2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the resultant, I then added up all the forces x components up after to find its magnitude
