Given the vectors P and Q shown on the grid, sketch and calculate the magnitudes of the vectors (a) M= P + Q and (b) K= 2*P - Q Use the tail-to-head method and express the magnitudes in centimeters with the aid of the grid shown in the drawing. http://www.chegg.com/homework-help/questions-and-answers/given-vectors-p-q-shown-grid-sketch-calculate-magnitudes-vectors-m-p-q-b-k-2-p-q-use-tail--q1345634

What's the difficulty with this ? The question pretty much tells you what to do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand part (a) but not part (b). I'm not really sure what the 2P means. Does it mean that I draw 2 P's?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, if you multiply a vector by a number, it just makes it longer by that factor and keeps the same direction as the original vector

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and -Q is the vector Q but with its direction reversed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be twice the size of P?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2P would be twice as long as P, yes
