-x^2+-13x=36
This is a quadratic equation in x.
First, you need everything on one side equaling zero. Start by subtracting 36 from both sides. What do you get?
x=−4 or x=−9
hey is that right? why is there a "+" and a "-" ?
u sure its not just a minus?
@MekaylaCox If you want to give out answers, it would be helpful if you explained how you got there.
I am Step 1: Subtract 36 from both sides. −x^2−13x−36=36−36 −x^2−13x−36=0 Step 2: Factor left side of equation. (−x−4)(x+9)=0 Step 3: Set factors equal to 0. −x−4=0 or x+9=0 So....x=−4 or x=−9
Solutions X = -9 X = -4
@MekaylaCox Great explanation, and you are correct, but I would do it differently. Look at my extra step, 1b, below. Step 1: Subtract 36 from both sides. −x^2−13x−36=36−36 −x^2−13x−36=0 Step 1b: Multiply both sides by -1 to end up with x^2 instead of -x^2: x^2 + 13x + 36 = 0 Step 2: Factor left side of equation. (x + 4)(x + 9) = 0 Step 3: Set factors equal to 0. x + 4 = 0 or x + 9 = 0 So.... x=−4 or x=−9
We get the same thing whats the difference??
