if using substitution method how do i solve -4x+y=6, -5x+y=21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you need to pick a equation and isolate a variable within the equation on one side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so with -4x=y=6 you would solve for x (you could pick y but for this example I will choose he harder of the two).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there should be a - instead of a = between the -4x and the y in my above response sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be y=6+4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that works perfecly as well! good job! Now plug that whole equation into where you see y in the other equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5x-(6+4x)=21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes good job, I'm sorry but I have to go :( your on the right track though

thanx for help
