determine the maximum minimum of y= -2 (x-3) power of 2 plus 1. I know how to find the value of y, I don't understand how to determine whether its a maximum or minimum

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

\(y=-2(x-3)^2+1\) ?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

You have a parabola. The vertex form of a parabola is \(y=a(x-h)^2+k\) where the vertex is \((h, k)\). If \(a\) is positive, the parabola is facing this way: \(\cup\), so the vertex is a minimum. If \(a\) is negative, the parabola is facing this way: \(\cap\), so the vertex is a maximum
