The antebellum (before the Civil War) South was a very different place from the South of the Jim Crow era. How did relations between blacks and whites change during this time? A. Jim Crow cut the close ties that had often existed in the antebellum South between black slaves and white owners. B. Blacks were viewed as equals of whites in the eyes of the law under Jim Crow. C. Jim Crow allowed whites and blacks to mingle freely in ways that weren't permitted before the war. D. Many blacks took advantage of Jim Crow laws to buy houses in white neighborhoods.
I answered a similar question earlier. Although these answer choices still confuse me some, as the Jim Crow laws were an attempt to segregate and further make blacks unequal to whites, I believe A is the most applicable.
