is the range of the function y = 2x^2 the same as the domain? why or why not?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well thats slightly incorrect... is the domain of you function is all real x, then squaring the domain will mean the range is all values great than or equal to zero... the reasoning... what happens when you square a negative real number... what do you get...? hope it makes sense

OpenStudy (gorv):

no they are different in domain you can put both positive and negative values of x

OpenStudy (gorv):

but your rangr will alwys be positive numbers only as x^2 will give only positve result

OpenStudy (gorv):

so range will be positve real number only
