OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

odd or even or neither

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Would this be even?

geerky42 (geerky42):

Did you check f(x) = f(-x)?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Yes thats why i thought even i just making sure if i was doing it right x:

geerky42 (geerky42):

well, f(x) shouldn't be equal to f(-x) f(x) = -2x+6, right? f(-x) = -2(-x)+6 = 2x+6, which is not same as -2x+6, hence it is not even function

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Dang it :c i guess i didnt think about one being negative and the other posotive

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

positive*

geerky42 (geerky42):

Yeah, and to check whether it is odd function: f(-x) = -f(x)

geerky42 (geerky42):

we have f(-x) = 2x+6 and -f(x) = -(-2x+6) = ...? is -f(x) and f(-x) same?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

-f(x)=2x-6

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

@geerky42

geerky42 (geerky42):

right, and you can see that f(-x) and -f(x) is not same, so function is not odd

geerky42 (geerky42):

Function is not even nor odd, so your answer is neither. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Yes thank you

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Its a linear function. Odd.

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

But

geerky42 (geerky42):

Linear function is not always odd function, especially when y-intercept is not 0. @Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Fine, I was too lazy to check. lol. Use rule. Even if f(-x)=f(x), odd if f(x) = -f(x)
