What is the x-intercept of the line with the equation -2x +1/2y = 18 ( ? , 0 )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x intercept is found when y=0. So try to sub in that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOuld you please give me the answer or just get me close to it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im 2 tired

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah sure! so...we put in y=0 and get --> \[-2x + \frac{ 1}{ 2 }(0) = 18\] Then we simplify it to --> \[-2x=18\] Then divide each side by -2 and get --> \[x= -6\] So the y intercept for the equation is (-6,0)

OpenStudy (triciaal):

rewrite the equation to make y the subject y = ? then set = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops, sorry 18/2 is 9 sorry!!

OpenStudy (triciaal):

the "short-cut" i use is to cover the term in y since anything by zero = 0 the you can "see" to solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its actually (-9,0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx for the steps 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx @triciaal
