OpenStudy (bossimbacon):

i would love to help you if i was slightly intelligent. sorry xoxo

OpenStudy (haltiamali):

Isn't it 7/20?

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

how did you get 7/20 ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

2/5 + 1/4 - 3/10 --- common denominator is 20 8/20 + 5/20 - 6/20 = 13/20 - 6/20 = 7/20

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

how did you get 8/20+5/20-6/20? the numerators?

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

@texaschic101

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

in order to add/subtract fractions, they have to have the same denominator. So we basically have to find the equivalent fraction that makes them have the same denominator. To find common denominator, see what all the denominators will go into evenly. 5, 4, and 10 will all go into 20 evenly...so the new denominator is 20. now we have to convert them to make them have a 20 denominator. 2/5.....5 goes into 20 four times...then multiply the 4 by the numerator 2, giving us 8, now put that over the new denominator 20 and we get 8/20 1/4....4 goes into 20 five times...take that 5 and multiply it by the numerator (1) and put that over the new denominator 20 and we get 5/20. do the same for the last fraction and once you get them to where they have the same denominaor, you just add/subtract....just the numerators....the denominators stay the same...the common denominator

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

does that help...I am not the best at explaining
