Darien has raw data that shows how many hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, wraps, and salads he sold in his sandwich shop in one day. He wants to compare the number of large and small of each type of meal he sold during the day. Should he use a bar graph, a double bar graph, or a circle graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 @LiteNing1337

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain why? I'm not really sure.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what are your definition for the options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

each option is defined by some description ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you should be able to express what each option looks like at least

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A circle graph is a pie chart. A bar graph compares things side by side. A double bar graph compare pairs of things?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

seems reasonable to me. a dbl chart is like a bar chart but is able to compare more than 1 thing yes

OpenStudy (litening1337):

Actually, a circle graph, because since Darien has 4 subjects (hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, and salads), and he's comparing one day (that's where the circle graph comes in). He's selling by percentages as well so....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a circle is more for percentages of dividing up one thing, and a bar chart measures one thing over say time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right.

OpenStudy (litening1337):

And using a circle graph, he can compare for one day.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

dbl bar is what im sticking with

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you think a double bar graph?

OpenStudy (litening1337):

Yeah, go with the mod. Double bar graph was my first answer anyway.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you tell me why, the 'mod' isn't being very helpful at all.

OpenStudy (litening1337):

He was. Or she. Who knows these days?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rather rude actually.

OpenStudy (litening1337):

I wasn't.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah whatever. It's just I have to write an essay on this question and I'm not sure how. They didn't explain the topics very well. Yeah you were nice, you actually tried to help :)

OpenStudy (litening1337):

A circle graph seems more suitable anyway, because he's comparing multiple subject in one day. Therefore, you can compare on a circle graph by percentage.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Double Bar is good for things like thisL http://www.studyzone.org/mtestprep/math8/a/double1.gif

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I think you're right. A double bar graph seems like it needs a few things to compare, there's only 4, so it makes sense to be a circle graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ack, idk who to listen to LOL! I'll check the link out.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Double bar vs bar: http://www.eduplace.com/math/mw/background/5/06a/te_5_06a_graphs_ideas.html

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So sports in general vs. sports spit by boys and girls. The double bar adds information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I know what they look like, but Idk which applies to this type of problem.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not sure how i came across as rude ....

OpenStudy (litening1337):

Ah, it's okay, Aim. I think the mods have better reasons than I do.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If you look at your problem you have 4 items but 2 sizes to each item.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Items: how many hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, wraps, and salads Types: compare the number of large and small of each type

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 you came across as rude because you were talking to me as if I was dumb, and I just need to know one simple question. Then you left abrubtply. It's okay though because other people seem to be doing a better job of helping than you. So, no hard feelings. And thank @e.mccormick I hope someone gives you a medal :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

abruptly*

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

One other thing amistre pointed out on the cicrcle/pie is good to remember: |dw:1411586988559:dw| vs. |dw:1411587015126:dw| A pie chat does parts of a whole. Like what percantage of the population makes under $30K, between $30K and $100K, and over $100K would be income divisions of the whole population.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i asked what you knew about the subject, agreed that your knowledge was adequate, explained what and why my choice would be. sorry if it was rude tho .... but Lite was giving you adequate extra info so i wished you well since i felt you were in capable hands. no hard feelings of course

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i still think a dbl bar chart is best to view/compare the desired data :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So double bar graph because it has view to compare the date provided?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ack sorry! I wrote that weirdly LOL.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So double bar graph because it has a better view to compare the data provided?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

data provided ..... you can compare them side by side inn the same area:|dw:1411587122102:dw|
