Medal will be awarded for help, please explain?: Two students in your class, Hunter and Maggie, are disputing a function. Hunter says that for the function, between x = -2 and x = 2, the average rate of change is 0. Maggie says that for the function, between x = -2 and x = 2, the graph goes up through a turning point, and then back down. Explain how Hunter and Maggie can both be correct, using complete sentences

i also dont understand what a turning point is exactly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imagine a function like a "montain", or a parabola between -2 and 2, this function have a peak in [-2,2], but Hunter said that the AVERAGE rate of change in this interval is zero... if we pick two points of same y value inside this interval, the average will be zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By saying that the average rate of change is zero inside a interval, means that there is at least two points in which their y coordinate are the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay that is kinda making sense..
