why is 2(pi) equal to 1 when we're looking at the unit circle?

OpenStudy (freckles):

2pi isn't equal to 1

OpenStudy (freckles):

2*pi is approximately 6 something 6>1 so 6 cannot be 1 therefore 2pi cannot be 1

OpenStudy (freckles):

I think you mean cos(2pi)=1

http://coolmath.com/precalculus-review-calculus-intro/precalculus-trigonometry/images/28-trigonometry-01.gif can you explain this for me, because it doesn't fully make sense...|dw:1411928776768:dw|

OpenStudy (freckles):

do you know what the circumference is of a circle?

OpenStudy (freckles):

Circumference of a circle is 2*r*pi where r is the radius of the circle in the unit circle the radius=1 so the circumference is 2*pi

OpenStudy (freckles):

so going half way around the circle would give an arclength of 2pi/2=pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Brilliant. I really appreciate that explanation. :D
