The table shows the approximate population of a town, in thousands, for the years 2009–2013. Which is the best prediction for the town’s approximate population in 2025? Use the data table to predict the population of a town for a given year. 100,000 115,000 120,000 130,000 http://static.k12.com/eli/ecollege/1546/3_80373/2_60529_6_80502/196e2c89716250f02062a8e0da796f64e62a0689/media/6e2ec7fac828fbe5ee2d18fffd3acb89d837a284/mediaasset_1453723_1.jpg

@wolf1728 I like your picture. Do you think you could help me on this problem? :)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I'm working on it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, ok. :) Thanks!

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Seems as though the population growth runs from about 6% to 13% per year !!! So, if we average that to about 10% per year that would make 2025 population about 213,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm a bit confused...That's not one of the answer choices.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Are the answers 100,000 115,000 and so on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh sorry. :) There the ones up top.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

So it has to be one of these ? 100,000 115,000 120,000 130,000

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Here are the population and the percent increase for each year 2009 46,000 2010 52,000 13.04% 2011 58,000 11.54% 2012 62,000 6.90% 2013 68,000 9.68%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

So, if we have to guess the population for 2025, AND if we base it on the 2013 population AND if we choose the smallest possible growth rate then the 2025 population = 130,019 (5.55% growth)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

2025 population = 120,041 (4.85% growth rate per year from 2013)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

2025 population = 115,055 (4.48% growth rate per year from 2013)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

2025 population = 110,006 (4.09% growth rate per year from 2013)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

All set then, CrazyCountryGirl?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so, just to make sure...D? Right? :)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Yes is is D (or 130,000) IF it is based on a 5.55 % growth rate every year from 2013 through 2025

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Well, I got a medal. Thanks :-)
