Help please will give medal to best answer 7. A motor boat is moving north at 4 knots, but the current is pushing perpendicular to the boat at 3 knots. What is the resulting velocity? (You don't need to give the exact direction, just the speed). show your work please :-P

i think its about twenty oneeee trololo

the speed will be 5 knots, found by drawing a vector diagram for velocities. put simply, imagine you are the boat and you chart the distance you travel in an hour. So you would travel 4 nautical miles (knot = 1 nautical mile per hour) NORTH because of your own effort while the current will carry you perpendicular (say EAST) by 3 nautical miles. Eventually you would have reached a point which would be 5 nautical miles from where you started. Hence every hour you would cover a distance of 5 nautical miles, hence a speed of 5 knots.|dw:1412456783953:dw|
