Thank you! I just want to make sure I was doing it right!

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

For future reference, you need to show YOUR work. As near as I can tell by looking at this thread, kah.x did all the work. Show us what YOU are doing and we can verify that. There might be other important things for you to learn in the investigation. You limit yourself if you don't show YOUR work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tkhunny theres not really much to explain on this one. i get what youre saying, but some people here are verifying their work, or dont even care about the work and just want the answer. YOU may want to show work with answers if you have a question, but thats not what everyone else is after even if they should be in your opinion.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Thank you, @kah.x, for that very polite answer. The premise of OpenStudy, as shown in the Code of Conduct and Terms and Conditions, states quite clearly that one should not post without showing work. Here's the problem: 1) We are staffed with volunteers. 2) If the posting includes work, it can be reviewed very quickly and very specific guidance can be given. This saves the time of volunteers. 3) If there is no work shown, the individual posting expects someone else to do the work - a volunteer whose time is valuable - since they are a volunteer. 4) If we truly understand the economy of OpenStudy, people asking for help and volunteers providing help, we see that the time and effort of volunteers should be considered more valuable than the time and effort of those asking the questions. 5) If there is no work shown, it is not possible to distinguish the following groups, 5a) Straight-up Cheaters, 5b) Lazy People hoping to get someone else to do their homework. 5c) People who just copied the answer out of the book and SAID they got that answer. 5d) Dishonest, pathological spammers simply hoping to waste the time of volunteers. 5e) Honest students who really did do the work. 6) Fundamentally, if a student wants to control the engagement, the student should consider paying for the time of the tutor. If the student chooses to seek free assistance, there should be no expectation of controlling or demanding anything. Your job, as a seeker of free help, is to show your work and cooperate with the volunteers as much as possible. After all, they are volunteers. Note: You appear to be a GREAT volunteer. Keep up the good work. Your willingness and bright spirit are exemplary. :-) P.S. There are a lot of abusers who do not understand these ideas. Group 5b is unfortunately very large. Group 5a also has quite a following. I do hope we can get more and more in 5e.
