How would I become a moderator? I would like to be a moderator because I have asked for guidance and help from some moderators but they just ignore my message. I would like to give others the guidance I never got so they wont go through the same struggles i go through.

im trying to get mods to look at this

OpenStudy (amistre64):

mods are picked by the site owners, and they make the call as to when they feel they need a mod, and who they feel is responsible enough for the tools.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

other than that, your post is rather cryptic

Let's put it this way: you ask, and you're out.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

How to become a Moderator: First rule: You must be 18+, due to legal issues. Second rule: You have to be, and act mature. Then you have to win the respect of this community through interaction, knowledge and the ability to interact and intervene in an appropriate manner. It is in big part based on participation, courtesy and respect. The most important thing is that you let the administrators and moderators know that you can see things going awry, and that you are willing to make some effort to solve/prevent it. And certainly NOT in a way like messaging them about how bad you want to be a moderator (this will only work contradictory), but they have to notice that you are up for the job. Then, when they decide they need more moderators, you might get asked. ◘ Being on the site for a fair amount of time. (usually more than 6 months) ◘ Be an good and active user on the site ◘ Having a squeaky clean abuse record. ◘ Have good rapport with fellow users. ◘ Having a good sense of justice. ◘ Being an expert in some field. Most of the mods are math geniuses. But any subject would suffice. ◘ Doing a great job in the ambassador program. In the ambassador training period, you'll learn how the rules work on OpenStudy and you'll learn how to make the right decisions. ◘ Hope you'll get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! source: thomaster

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@Jello_Soccer Let me take this in parts... because I think you mean Ambassador and not Moderator. "How would I become a moderator?" First, "those that seek power tend not to get it" is one of the thing thay go by. People trying to ask for moddom are not as likely to get it. "I would like to be a moderator because I have asked for guidance and help from some moderators but they just ignore my message." What sort of help were you asking for? Did you use the report button? "I would like to give others the guidance I never got so they wont go through the same struggles i go through." Most mods do their mod stuff when they have free time. Also, being a mod makes you a target for all sorts of things. For example, I recently saw someone saying in chat that Ashley suspended them for several weeks. That was a lie and I know it because mods see the suspend activity of all other mods. However, with how you phrased what you asked, I am not sure you want to be a moderator. You seem to be talking about answering things like "What is the derivative of..." type questions. That is not what moderators are here to do. Yes, moderators do answer topic questions. Satlite73 is infamous for the number of questions they have answered. However, the meaning of the term Moderation is what comes into play: 1. the quality of being moderate; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance. 2. the act of moderating. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/moderation What we do as moderators is to help regulate how far people get away from following the Code of Conduct. Being a moderators does not mean you suddenly need to answer every subject question you can. Instead, it is about deleting the bad language, warning offenders, and suspending people so that the content of the site will be as close to a G rating (child friendly) as possible. If what you want is a position that is charged with greeting people, answering questions, and being generally helpful, that is an Ambassador.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you @e.mccormick yes ambassador is what I mean after seeing this

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Then read this one: http://openstudy.com/updates/54232b90e4b0fc46bc3e5a09

Parth (parthkohli):

Why is Satellite73 infamous?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, how many people have answered anywhere near that many questions?

Parth (parthkohli):

infamous ˈɪnfəməs/ adjective Well known for some bad quality or deed.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yep. Keeping the rest of us from gaving a chance at SS 100.
