OpenStudy (linn99123):

http://prntscr.com/4uizer ok for this one do i make a list of multiples that go into 4 and 8

OpenStudy (linn99123):

@iGreen

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

(-1/8)/(-5/4) Whats the first step?

OpenStudy (linn99123):

Change the denominators?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, you have to change the denominator(s). What's the number that 8 and 4 can get? @linn99123

OpenStudy (linn99123):

umm 2 goes into both right

OpenStudy (linn99123):

8 can go in both as well

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

LOL

OpenStudy (ilovecake):

That is not very nice.

OpenStudy (linn99123):

IM GONNA PUNCH U IN THE THOUGHT TARIQ

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I know /.\

OpenStudy (linn99123):

Help me butt munch i really need this

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

i was called butt much so we even..

OpenStudy (linn99123):

yea i guess NOW HELP ME B4 I FAIL D:

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I would do: -1/8 x2 -2/16 and -5/4 x4 -20/16 (-2/16)/(-20/16)

OpenStudy (linn99123):

Wow dude u lost me

OpenStudy (linn99123):

OKay so why did u do -1/8 x 2?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Did i screw up @iGreen ? Havent done this in ages...

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay, you said the common denominator is 8. So we only have to change -5/4, because -1/8 already has a denominator of 8. Can you change -5/4 to a denominator of 8? @lin

OpenStudy (linn99123):

wouldnt it just me -5/8?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, you did xD You're supposed to have 8 for the denominator..not 16. But it kind of doesn't matter, it's just at the end you have to simplify the fraction if you make it 16 instead of 8.

OpenStudy (igreen):

No, you multiplied 2 to 4 to get 8, so you have to multiply 2 to -5 too. Therefore, you'll get: \(\dfrac{-5 \times 2}{-4 \times 2} = -\dfrac{10}{8}\)

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I was thinking of that...but then something was like..I wonder =.= *click* ima experiment! Works either way though...Im quite sure is -1/10...Not 100% sure though...

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

The contradictory though: "Im quite sure is -1/10...not 100% sure though"

OpenStudy (linn99123):

thats a mixed number right? and im sorry if yall are annoyed i just have a ahrd time learning this

OpenStudy (linn99123):

hard*

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh wait..I messed up..lol it's division so we don't need a common denominator. When dividing fractions, flip the second one and multiply. \(-\dfrac{1}{8} \div -\dfrac{5}{4} \rightarrow -\dfrac{1}{8} \times -\dfrac{4}{5}\) Can you multiply those? Just multiply the top numbers and the bottom numbers together.

OpenStudy (linn99123):

4/40

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes! That's correct! But we can simplify it more..can you do that?

OpenStudy (linn99123):

And that would be 1/10 right

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep!

OpenStudy (linn99123):

not negative right?

OpenStudy (igreen):

You almost had it. xD @undeadknight26

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yeah, it's positive.

OpenStudy (linn99123):

OMG THANK YOU :D but by the next question im gonna be brainless again ;-;

OpenStudy (igreen):

xD It's okay.

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

*snaps* I need to refresh ma memory XD
