Please do not just give the answer, explain it so that people can understand it better and will actually learn about it to better understand it the next time a question like that pops up.

According to the dictionary, a metaphor is a "a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable." A is correct because it is a figure of speech. B, C, and D can all happen in real life, therefore, they are not metaphors. A is a metaphor because is describes a certain woman as being a rose without thorns, meaning that she is beautiful, but not harsh or mean. Roses always have thorns, therefore this is a metaphor.
