How did the U.S. respond to the Holocaust before the war?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no one reacted to the holocaust at all. the truth is, during the war no one even really knew about the holocaust. after the war when it was revealed, it was over, and there was nothing more to be done regarding it.

I'm with kaylamarie081. Most of the world, before the war, didn't do much other than write pieces and debate what was going on in Nazi Germany to the Jews. Even when Jews were fleeing to other countries, there wasn't anything substantial done (no embargoes, formal protests by governments, etc) other than either to accept all of these refugees coming in or turning them back (which did happen). The Allies, on the other hand, did have some idea (though not outright confirmation until they started getting reports from soldiers liberating them later) of what was going on in the death camps during the war, but there is a lot of debate on why they didn't do anything else with the information or whether it was even possible to do anything at all.

It is definitely the right answer.
