x^2-5x+25/4 how would I factor this with the fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What if you multiply each part by 4 then solved using the quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (radar):

Please note this is not an equation (there is no equal sign). It is an expression that they want you to attempt to factor.

OpenStudy (radar):

I would first investigate if this is a special product, Note the least term is a perfect square....maybe that suggests something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the whole thing is x^2-5x+25/4+y^2+8y+16=-16+25/4+16

OpenStudy (radar):

It does to me, see if (x - 5/2) (x-5/2) might be a solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (x-5/2)^2?

OpenStudy (radar):

Whoa whoa, please put the complete problem. Yes that would work for the original problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is 25/4 squared?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind

OpenStudy (radar):

(5/2)^2 is 25/4
