-8(x-3)=-32 Prove x=7 Give statements and reasons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There we go now you added = -32, so do what I asked you to do in the first time you put up this question. |dw:1413235285241:dw| multiply and see what you get

OpenStudy (freckles):

Assume x=7. So we have - 8(7-3).

OpenStudy (freckles):

Use order of operations to show this gives you - 32

They don't want you to just plug in x and see if it works, though you could do that and not get full marks, this question is specifically asking you to solve for x. But plugging in and checking you can confirm it'll work and try getting 7.

OpenStudy (freckles):

It doesn't say solve. It says to prove/check/verify x=7 is a solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Prove...

OpenStudy (freckles):

Prove isn't to solve, it is to verify.

OpenStudy (freckles):

We are to verify x=7 is a solution.

OpenStudy (freckles):

Just like you don't prove the lim x->5 (3x+6) by just saying well hey it is 3(5)+6=21 You actually have to verify the limit is 21

OpenStudy (freckles):

It doesn't say solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I suggest you know both ways though OP, as it will benefit you :), plugging in numbers is one thing but doing the algebra is much more important.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually since you have to give statements hence the proof (evidence) I suggest you do it algebraically.
