Directions for Geometry Unit 3 Portfolio: Constructions Read these portfolio directions carefully to be sure you understand what is expected of you. If you have questions after reviewing all instructional material for the portfolio, please be sure to discuss them with your teacher as soon as possible. Recall that a construction is a geometric figure drawn using a straightedge and a compass. You learned four basic constructions in a previous unit. Lesson 6 of this unit contains instruction on several more constructions involving parallel and perpendicular lines. • Task 1: Begin by reviewing the basic constructions you learned in a previous unit. Then complete each construction on a separate piece of paper using a straightedge and compass. Also provide detailed, step-by-step instructions describing how to complete each construction. These instructions need to be specific enough that another person could follow them and successfully complete the construction. The four basic constructions you learned previously are listed below: • congruent segments • congruent angles • perpendicular bisector • angle bisector • Task 2: Check your instructions by giving them to another person, such as a family member or a friend, to follow. Was this person able to follow your directions to complete the constructions? Explain. • Task 3: Repeat Tasks 1 and 2 above with the new constructions learned in Lesson 6 of this unit. Be sure to give your instructions to someone else and provide a response describing how well they worked. The constructions are listed below: • parallel line through a point not on the line • quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides • perpendicular at a point on the line • perpendicular from a point to a line  If you do not have a compass handy, refer to the PowerGeometry Dynamic Activities for Unit 1, Lesson 6 and Unit 3, Lesson 6 for an interactive compass tool that you can use to complete constructions

OpenStudy (gorv):

can u attach the pic so these can help u out

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

do you have compass and straight edge with you ?

OpenStudy (gorv):

thanks buddy :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if so, you can use the steps/animation in below site to make the constructions : http://www.mathopenref.com/constbisectline.html

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

click RUN to begin the construction of perpendicular bisector

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it doesn't come with any pictures @gorv and no I do not have a straight edge or protractor..:( @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry ik this wont help but im from k12 and i have a question . Does connections have study island ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they do. @ilovethemiddletvshow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just did this the other day. What do you not understand? It basically giving the definitions to each of the types of constructions. And you also have to explain how to construct each thing. Do you need help with how to construct the types of terms? Or just with everything? :)

I'll help you if you'd like :)

I got a hold of my teacher and she told me that too..i finished it, but now I don't know anything on the test. I was gone for a long time, so she told me to just skip the lessons and do the unit test, then go into the next unit. I just don't know anything on the test.:( lol

@HistoryGeek18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm working on it right now. I'm stuck on question 18. I understand most of it, would you like some help? @smartgirl14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes please.. if its not too much to ask @HistoryGeek18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not at all! I'm NOT going to give you answers, but I will help. What question are you on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im on 11 right now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Do you understand it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh this ones easy!! I would suggest (if you have an iPhone) to ask Siri to graph -3x - 8y = 24. She will give you the graph. And you can check your work. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I see kk.. um thanks. my dad said he would help me with the rest of it. I guess he thinks this is cheating..lol whatever.. thank you tho!!!:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! Good Luck :)
