Solve. One state's requirement for staffing levels mandates a minimum ratio of one nurse for every three patients in a pediatric unit. Under these guidelines, how many nurses are required to be on duty if there are 10 patients in the pediatric unit? ? nurses

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

1 max of 3 2 max of 6 3 max of 9 4 max of 22 Where does 10 fit in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much are you multiplying by

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@tkhunny has a typo. The 4th line should read: 4 max of 12 not 22

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Since you need 1 nurse for each 3 patients, multiply the number of nurses by 3 to find the maximum number of patients any number of nurses can handle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

33

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You can divide the number of patients by 3. If the division does not come out even, round up to the next higher integer.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That's weird. It WAS a 12?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

With 33 nurses you can handle 99 patients. You only have 10 patients, so 33 nurses is way too many.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

1 max of 3 2 max of 6 3 max of 9 4 max of 12 Where does 10 fit in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u need 3 nurses for 9 patients so i guess u need 4 nurses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i right?
