You work for the Contoso Corporation. You have a server that acts as a file server for clients. You must make sure that the server is up at all times. What would you recommend?

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

My Linux machines, except for power outages, are pretty easy to keep up about 4.5 9's ( 99.995% of the time ). That's about 8 minutes of downtime per year. My Macs, may make 90 days before needing rebooting.

I don't know what you is talking about

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

Uptimes are one of the key metrics for servers. If the machine isn't up, it isn't serving. Uptime is usually expressed as a percentage. If a machine is up 99.9% of the time, we refer to that as 3 9's uptime. 4 9's would be 99.99% uptime, 4 and a half - 99.995%, 5 9's is 99.999% uptime. Unix's with a good admin can hit these levels of service. The longest that I've had a machine up without a reboot is about 23 months, about 730 days.
