i will give a medal please solve and describe the steps it took to get the answer. |2f+9 |< 13

OpenStudy (igreen):

You break this into two separate equations: 2f + 9 < 13 and 2f - 9 < 13 --------------- Can you solve both of those?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i am not sure how to do any of this stuff

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay. 2f + 9 < 13 First you subtract 9 to both sides so you can get 2f by itself. 2f + 9 - 9 < 13 - 9 The 9's on the left cancel out leaving you with: 2f < 13 - 9 Now we can subtract these: 2f < 4 Divide 2 to both sides: 2/2f < 4/2 The 2's on the left cancel out leaving you with: f < 4/2 Can you divide that?

og your a life saver thank you very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f=2

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, but that's only one answer.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Now we solve our other equation: 2f - 9 < 13 Add 9 to both sides of the equation: 2f - 9 + 9 < 13 + 9 The 9's cancel out..we normally don't include this in our work. 2f < 13 + 9 Add: 2f < 22 Can you divide 22 / 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f=11

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, so F = 2 and 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (igreen):

No problem.
