6c-1=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find "c" isolate it. so add one to both sides 6c-1=-2 +1 +1 -2 + 1 = -1 6c=-1 isolate the "c." do that by dividing both sides by 6.. voila! c= -1/6. does that make sense?

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

remember. this is an equation which means that the stuff on the left side of the equal sign is equal to the stuff on the right side. so like 1=1 or 3=1+2 or 5=3+2. now here they just a little more complicated. they added an unknown but it's still the same. left side is the same as the right side. so to find c or x or whatever variable they use you have to understand that equations can be manipulated to "find" the variable, but since it's an equation and we established that whats on the left is equal to the stuff on the right you have to do the same operations that happen on the left as well as to the right. take x-2=7 for example. you want to "find" x so you would add 2 to both sides. adding to both sides eliminates the -2 on the left and gives you your answer on the right and also finding x. i think this is the right way to explain it.

^^perfect explanation :)

thank you. i see this type of question a lot on here so i try to explain it in a way that worked for me. :) also gave you a medal cuz you cool like that. lol
