Three times the difference of a number and 7 is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(x-7)=2 basically we break it up into parts three times is multiplication 3* so we are multiplying 3 and the difference of a number and 7 difference equals subtraction so we now we are subtracting 7 from a number and then multiplying the difference so since we don't have a given number to subtract from 7 we put a variable i'm going to use x as the variable so we have 7-x and we have to multiply it by three 3(7-x) we use parentheses so when we do the problem we know to do the subtraction first then multiply it all by three then finnally the problem say that 3(7-x) is going to be 2 so the equation is 3(7-x)=2 (three times the difference of seven minus a number is two)

/3*/= three times /7-x/ = seven minus a number /=2/ = is two
