Solve the following system of equations using elimination: 3x + 5y = 4 4x + 2y = -18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok we need to eliminate the x or the y which one shall we do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great now to eliminate the x we need to make it a negative in one of the equations and it must be equal to the positive value in the other equation.

So lets multiply the top equation by -4 and the bottom equation by 3. What do we end up with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it (-7,5)?

Multiply the top equation by -4 and you get -12x-20y=-16. You have to multiply each part of the equation by -4. So what would you get if you multiply the second equation by 3?
