Someone please help! You are tiling a room in your house that measures 18 feet long by 12 feet wide. Each square tile has an area of 324 square inches. What are the dimensions of a tile? How many tiles will you need to cover the floor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so I know that the square root of 324 is 18, but then what? 18 * 12 = 216, so 216 ft area?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure :/

Me either. I appreciated the link you sent me, but I know area and perimeter. This is just confusing me for some reason. :/

I found this, but I think it's wrong and I don't understand their explanation. "Since 1 foot = 12 inches, you can fit 12 tiles side by side along the 18-feet-long wall and 8 tiles along the 12-foot wall. So you need 12 * 8 = 96 tiles to cover the floor."
