You roll 2 dice. Find the probability of rolling 2 numbers whose sum is greater than 1 and less than 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 could u help me with one more this one's tricky to me

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this chart may be handy http://bestcase.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dicediagram.jpg it shows all the possible rolls you can get with 2 dice

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you have 36 outcomes, how many of them are both larger than 1 and smaller then 12?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

edit ... *smaller than 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

which 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 plus 1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there are 36 outcomes when you roll the dice, right? how many of the sum of those outcomes are bigger than 1, and less than 13?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4 plus 1 is one of them, but so is 5 plus 2, and 3 plus 6 and .....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i finally right

OpenStudy (amistre64):

list out all the outcomes ..... or use the chart that jim linked

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if all your doing is guessing, then we cant move forwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not really guessing all the sums i counted were less than 13 but no less than 1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

bigger than 1 ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jim's Link basically give you the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll look again

geerky42 (geerky42):

"You roll 2 dice. Find the probability of rolling 2 numbers whose sum is greater than 1 and less than 13" Thinking about it, is it possible for you to get sum smaller than 2 or larger than 12? 1+1 = 2 6+6 = 12 What do you notice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i got to find the numbers in between

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not guessing this time im like thinking its 36 and if you need the explanation well ive got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there's a multiple of that many combinations between those two numbers i cant really explain well but maybe i should think about it for a while and come back to u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like Geerky said you cannot have a sum of 1 or less and a sum of 13 or greater if you role 2 dices, so there the probability is 36/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see there i had 36 thank u i just couldn't explain it but you were really good at explainin
