factorise x^2-4x-21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the product and sum method to factor quadratics. Find two number that multiply to get -21 and add to get -4

OpenStudy (kamille):

or you can simple use \[x _{1,2}=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac} }{ 2a }\]

Yes, you can use the quadratic formula, but sometimes it is too tedious, so a faster approach would the product and sum method.
