Is this quote an example of symbolism or a metaphor? "When their bodies had finished scouring for gaps in the door, their souls rose up. When their fingernails had scratched at the wood and in some cases were nailed into it by the sheer force of desperation, their spirits came toward me, into my arms, and we climbed out of those show facilities, onto the roof and up, into eternity's certain breadth. They just kept feeding me. Minuted after minute. Shower after shower."
The quote is from Death's perspective, he explains how the Jews were killed in gas chambers and their floated up to be collected by him. They would push against the doors of the chamber in an attempt to escape, but the were eventually killed by the poisonous air (gas). "They just kept feeding me." <-- Refering to the Nazis feeding Death souls by killing more Jewish people in the chambers?
@Fallontine Help please?
I'm not 100% sure but I think it is a symbolism
Okay, thank you! Is there any other literary element it could be? I just asked if it was symbolism or a metaphor because the quote sounded it like it might be one of them.
the problem is, that I understand the text, but don't know the english names of all those literary elements (since English isn't my native language)
