OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is relative abundance?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

you can google it

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

the number of organisms of a particular kind as a percentage of the total number of organisms of a given area or community; the number of birds of a particular species as a percentage of the total bird population of a given area

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Relative species abundance is a component of biodiversity and refers to how common or rare a species is relative to other species in a defined location or community.

OpenStudy (matt101):

If we're talking about chemistry, relative abundance refers to the amounts of different ISOTOPES of an element we're likely to find in a sample of that element. So for instance, carbon-12 is the most common isotope of carbon, having a relative abundance of about 99%. The other main isotope of carbon is carbon-13, having a relative abundance of about 1%. This means if you take a chunk of pure carbon, 99% of the carbon atoms in the sample will be carbon-12, and 1% will be carbon-13. Hope that helps!
