5. A Labrador leaps over a hurdle. The function f(t) represents the height of the Labrador above the ground, in inches, at t seconds: f(t) = -16t2 + 20t A foxhound jumps over the same hurdle. The table shows the height of the foxhound above the ground g(t), in inches, at t seconds: Time (t) g(t) 0 0 0.4 7.04 0.6 8.64 0.75 9 1.0 8 1.5 0 Part A: Compare and interpret the maximum of f(t) and g(t)? (4 points) Part B: Which function has a greater x-intercept? What do the x-intercepts of the graphs of f(t) and g(t) represent? (4 points) Part C: Determine the y-intercepts of both functions and explain what this means in the context of the problem. (2 points)

someone plz help me I have to finish this tonight and its 9:30 where I live

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 can u help plz or attempt to at least

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what are your thoughts for part A? min and max stuff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like at f(t) it gives me the equation so i could graph it and see the maximum and minimum but for g(t) I don't have a equation so I'm not sure what to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know what it is though like the highest and lowest points on a parbola right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

parabola*

OpenStudy (amistre64):

g is defined, all we can say is that the max hits in an interval, and that the table maxes out at a given vlaue

OpenStudy (amistre64):

graphing f is fine if thats allowed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is allowed but how would i put g(t) in a equation so i can graph it aswell

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you cant, or at least i wouldnt ... just plot the points individually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but i might have more questions after that on part a

OpenStudy (amistre64):

part a is just asking to define the high point of f and g part b is asking where each function has an output of 0 and compare

OpenStudy (amistre64):

part c is when th einput is zero, what does that tell us about the outputs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you very much u just got a medal and fan

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome ... if you want to run by your solutions, i can dbl chk them to see how correct i think they are

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i will when i finish it real quick

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are these correct Part A: The maximum for f(t) is (0.625,6.25) and The maximum for g(t) is (0.75,9). Part B: f(t) has the greater x-intercept and the x-intercepts represent the time t in seconds. Part C: When the x intercept is zero so is the y-intercept.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-16t2 + 20t 4t(-4t+5); x = 5/8 is the high point values are fine, whats the interpretation of the values?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

A Labrador leaps over a hurdle. The function f(t) represents the height of the Labrador above the ground, in inches, at t seconds: A foxhound jumps over the same hurdle. The table shows the height of the foxhound above the ground g(t), in inches, at t seconds: the fox jumps higher, but it takes longer to do so .. some kind of interpretation

OpenStudy (amistre64):

define the x intercepts and then What do the x-intercepts of the graphs of f(t) and g(t) represent? (4 points) they represent when the animals are on the ground, the time between them is the amount of time that they stayed in the air

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question didn't ask for a interpretation so idk

OpenStudy (amistre64):

y intercept of both function is 0, which means that both animals started at ground level ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sure it did ... Part A: Compare and interpret the maximum of f(t) and g(t)? (4 points) ^^^^^^ Part B: Which function has a greater x-intercept? What do the x-intercepts of the graphs of f(t) and g(t) represent? (4 points) ^^^^^^ ^^^^ Part C: Determine the y-intercepts of both functions and explain what this means in the context of the problem. (2 points) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, define the values asked for, and then say a little something about what the values mean to us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

youre right i didnt see that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and thats for part a right

OpenStudy (amistre64):

all the parts ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you a lot

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome, and good luck :)
