The average height of second graders is 40 inches. One student has a height of 52 inches. What will happen to the average height if the 52 inch tall student is not included? Answer The average will decrease. The average will increase. The average will be 38 inches. The average will not change.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

what do you think ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

notice that you're removing a tall person

OpenStudy (surryyy):

the average will decrease?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

exactly !

OpenStudy (surryyy):

Thnx! :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

btw the answer to ur previous question on sampling is "convenience sampling"

OpenStudy (surryyy):

im not sure which one to choose im really confused on that question.

OpenStudy (surryyy):

i will write the definition of both,

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

there is nothing to confuse, have u ever conducted a survey for statistics ?

OpenStudy (surryyy):

Random Sampling (a.k.a probability sampling) - Random sampling uses flips of a coin, rolls of dice, or use of a table of random numbers, to randomly select subjects from a population. For example, choosing 100 of the 1000 cancer patients a hospital treated over the preceding year.

OpenStudy (surryyy):

Convenience Sampling (a.k.a. opportunity sampling) - With convenience sampling, you take whatever you can get. For example, if you need a sampling of students you choose the students in your neighborhood simply because they are in close proximity to you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also think random sampling are reliable as they are common in use

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

by reliability, they mean the representative of the overall population

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

convenience sampling is the least reliable because you're only conducting survey among the few people accessible to you and so your sample may not cover the entire populaiton

OpenStudy (surryyy):

oh ok.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

random sampling is most reliable because you're randomly picking people from the entire population and conducting a survey, so a random sample ALWAYS represents the entire populaiton

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

they use simple random sampling in exit polls to predict who wins the election

OpenStudy (surryyy):

i understand. i have changed my answer. Thank u so much!
