Colony-Placed lived in and controlled by people from a distant county In an historical context, colonies should be distinguished from protectorates and protected states, which though under British control, were nominally independent states, whereas colonies were part of the British state. and @michaelfuller2017 refrain from giving direct answers without being able to back it up :)
