Why might increased anger about the corruption in government lead to less interest in government attempts to reconstruct the south?
If there is corruption in the government, then maybe the problems in the south are not as important as they once seemed. Also, voters get tired of the problems that are further away from their own homes, and might not care as much about issues in other parts of the country. http://staceyjarvis.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/file/view/dbq_recon2.pdf
If it is Reconstruction era after the Civil War, then here is my answer. (I am slightly fascinated with learning about the Civil War.) Well, they were angry over the Civil War, and some people in the north thought that the entire south should be punished, because of the war. And then there were the carpetbaggers who came to the south to try and profit on the destruction and mayhem, and generally being a nuisance to those trying to rebuild destroyed communities. And then there were missionaries of sorts, who were coming to the south to try and help them rebuild, of which both made the southerners kind of upset, because they just wanted to be left alone after their defeat to lick their wounds, try and rebuild, and get life back to normal.
