why in the absence of any external source no current passes through a conductor

OpenStudy (harsha19111999):

For the current to pass through a conductor, there must be flow of electrons. So, in generally, with the absence of potential, there will be random motion of electrons. And the electrons flow in a certain straight path only when the ends of the conductor to any source like battery. Thus, the battery helps in the ordered flow of electrons and creates electric current
