OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

(will fan and medal whoever answers in the next five minutes) Determine which polynomial has (x + 4) as a factor. A. x^2+11x+28 B. x^2-6x+8 C. x^2+7x+12 D. x^2-4x+16

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

@zepdrix @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

@leonardo0430

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

@sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

do you know how to factor polynomials?

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

yes

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

btw I like ur owl xD

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

tank you :-)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

ok so you know that they have to multiply to be the 3rd number and add to be the second number correct?

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

yes

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

ok so lets start with the first one what are the factors of 28?

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

1,2,4,7,14,28

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

ok so do any of those add to be 11?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

and for this one both factors are either both positive or both negative

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

I don't know but I'm running out of time!

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

4 and 7 add to be 11 correct?

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

yes

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

ok so now lets do (x+4)(x+7) \(x^2+4x+7x+28\) simplifiy that \(x^2+11x+28\)

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

so it's not a

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

yes it is A notice how the factors are (x+4) and (x+7)

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

but A is x^2-11x-28 you got addition

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

This is what my screen says (will fan and medal whoever answers in the next five minutes) Determine which polynomial has (x + 4) as a factor. A. x^2+11x+28 B. x^2-6x+8 C. x^2+7x+12 D. x^2-4x+16

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

o I must have typed it in wrong

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

ok then factors of 8 1, 2, 4, 8 both must be negative since 8 is positive but 6 is negative

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

-4, -2

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

I think it's C.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

we know just from those factors it cant be B

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

yes

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

factors of 12 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 both positive must be positive since both number are positive 3 and 4

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

(x+3)(x+4) \(x^2+3x+4x+12=x^2+7x+12\)

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

Ok so I was right?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

yes

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

cool!

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

thank you!

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

YAY I GOT 100 PERCENT WOOHOO!!!

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

do you have any more questions? if so im sorry but i cant help i am in the middle of a history test right now and i cant let it time me out or it will submit it with the answers i have and im not done yet

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

O ok ya that is what mine just did to me :P but I still got 100 YAY

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

Nope all my questions are answered :)
