can someone help me how to find the answer to this ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Suppose a study estimated that 85% of the residents of a town (with an error range of ±12 percentage points at 95% confidence) favor building a new community center. Which of the following percentages of the town's residents may favor building a new community center? A. 99% B. 69% C. 59% D. 79%

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is your confidence interval?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

95%??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 can you help please i have no idea how to do this

OpenStudy (amistre64):

take the estimated, and work the margin of error interval is equal to: estimated +- error

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?? i lost

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, i cant read minds so youll have to be more explicit about what it is that lost you.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what was the estimated value? what is the stated error?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i cant read it for you ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its 85% were study and there is (+,-)12% error range and there is 95% confidence

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so 85 +- 12 is the range of possibilities

OpenStudy (amistre64):

anything that falls within that interval is a possibility, anything outside of it is not so likely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the range can be 73-97

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is that i can get the percentages of the town residents

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just have to look for whats within the range??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we are 95% sure that the true population parameter is someplace between 73 and 97, thats what the confidence interval tell us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that is true the answer should be D)795 right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok see my teacher sucks and can not teach worth a crap

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well lets not go there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no its true even some of the other teachers at my school think so too

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok you for the help
