Which phrase did Mark Twain use to describe the Glded Ages

OpenStudy (17bohtal):

"Gilded" means covered with gold on the outside, but not really golden on the inside. The book ''Gilded Age'' is how the whole era got its name. Guess who is the author of that book? You guessed it Mark Twain himself. My teacher always described Gilded Age as a old coin. Imagine dipping that old corrupted coin into gold. What is underneath the coin is still crummy but what is above makes it so deceiving. What is meant buy that example is that wealthy people during that age was so caught up with their needs. They were really defying the fact that other lower class citizens were really struggling.
